During rehearsals what have I been waiting for? The Last Supper.<\/div>\n
Why is this important to me? It is pure self indulgence. Love. Heartbreak. Strength to believe in something more than here.<\/div>\n
What memory is stirred? When I left home and left behind all that I knew, all that had been safe, to go somewhere I didn\u2019t know and feared – and in that, leaving my mum.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

When I was 18 and had moved to London for university, my mum visited me, and in Greenwich, bought me an embroidery of the Last Supper, which for her in particular, meant home, protection, and somewhere I could always return to. It was beautiful but a lot of work and I had a life to live, so I started but never finished\u2026 until about 12 years later when I had lost my mum suddenly and unexpectedly.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

My mums faith was really important to her, Easter in particular, so I completed this mammoth task and gifted it to her church where it has hung at the alter ever since.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Why am I telling you this? I think because for anyone with or without faith, knows the picture of Jesus and his disciples at the table for the last supper. And with or without faith it is a powerful image.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
It is a moment where he says a final farewell to those he has loved and been loved by – giving them a feast, and making promises of what is to come even though he will no longer be with them physically. He commits to return and gives himself freely to those who want him dead.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
We all know, whether we have experienced it first hand or not, how hard and moving a final goodbye is and the hope that those we love are still with us in spirit if not in body.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
I have seen this being rehearsed over the last week, not even with the full cast yet, but it grabs my heart every time\u2026 for me, it is a snapshot of love, faith, belief in the world and myself, and beautiful memories of times long gone with my mum.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Last year, to see my embroidery in human form was very moving and this year is no exception.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

ULTIMA CENA – LA PASSIONE DEL FIGLIO DELL\u2019UOMO<\/div>\n
Cosa ho aspettato durante tutte queste prove? L’Ultima Cena.<\/div>\n
Perch\u00e9 \u00e8 importante per me? \u00c8 puro piacere per me stessa. Amore. Cuore spezzato. Forza di credere in qualcosa di pi\u00f9 rispetto a tutto questo.<\/div>\n
Che ricordo viene evocato? Quando me ne andai di casa, lasciai tutto quello che sapevo, tutto ci\u00f2 che era sicuro, per andare da qualche parte che non conoscevo e temevo – e in tutto questo, lasciai anche mia mamma.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

All\u2019et\u00e0 di 18 anni, mi ero gi\u00e0 trasferita a Londra per l’universit\u00e0, e mia mamma mi venne a trovare, e a Greenwich, mi compr\u00f2 un ricamo dell’Ultima Cena, che per lei in particolare, significava casa, protezione, e dove potevo sempre tornare. E ‘stato bello, ma richiedeva un grande lavoro e avevo una vita da vivere, cos\u00ec ho iniziato, ma mai finito… fino a circa 12 anni dopo, quando persi mia madre improvvisamente e inaspettatamente.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

La fede di mia mamma era molto importante per lei, la Pasqua specialmente, cos\u00ec ho completato quell\u2019enorme lavoro e l’ho regalato alla sua chiesa dove \u00e8 appeso all’altare da allora.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Perch\u00e9 ve lo sto dicendo? Perch\u00e9 chiunque, con o senza fede, conosce l’immagine di Ges\u00f9 e dei suoi discepoli a tavola per l’ultima cena e, con o senza fede, \u00e8 un’immagine potente.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u00c8 un momento in cui pronuncia il suo addio a coloro che ha amato e da cui \u00e8 stato amato – dando per loro un banchetto, e facendo promesse su ci\u00f2 che deve venire, anche se non sar\u00e0 pi\u00f9 con loro fisicamente. Promette di tornare e dona se stesso liberamente a chi lo vuole morto.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Sappiamo tutti, sia che l’abbiamo sperimentato in prima persona o no, quanto sia difficile e commovente un ultimo addio e avere la speranza che coloro che amiamo siano ancora con noi in spirito, se non nel corpo.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Ho visto questo nelle prove durante l’ultima settimana, e il cast non \u00e8 neanche completo ancora, ma l\u2019interpretazione mi commuove ogni volta… per me, \u00e8 una fotografia istantanea di amore, fede, fede nel mondo e in me stessa, e bei ricordi di tempi lontani con mia mamma.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

L’anno scorso, vedere il mio ricamo in forma umana \u00e8 stato molto commovente e quest’anno non far\u00e0 eccezione.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
