Whilst rehearsals continue, I feel this is a good question that I ask myself. Why am I involved with this performance?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
I have always loved performing so I understand why these people are on the stage but that\u2019s not why I am here. I don\u2019t want to be up there with them\u2026. Although I have learnt the role of Erodiade just in case she can\u2019t do it. I jest but it is my favourite part. A strong, slightly dangerous but gorgeous woman – what more can you ask for\u2026.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
It\u2019s their passion. It\u2019s the importance these people put on what they are doing. It\u2019s the community. It\u2019s the laughter. It\u2019s the inclusion. I am learning so much more than a play about a Jesus.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
I am learning the language, and the culture. I am meeting new people and making new friends. I love this town and its people and can see quite clearly how good this performance is, how good these actors are. I want the world to see them. If I can encourage one person to come and see this play, to experience our beautiful town and meet these beautiful people, then my job is done.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The mood is changing in the rehearsal space and position and placement as well as intonation and expression is now repeated time and time again to make this perfect. It does go wrong and lines are missed and some scenes can be repeated over and over; but that\u2019s what makes perfection – right?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

General chatter is no longer allowed. It\u2019s crucial that each person is heard and each line given the importance it deserves. With just a few weeks left to rehearse, we are now taking this as seriously as if it were no longer a play, but reality.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I am used to the creation of dance performances and pantomime, never something like this and it\u2019s fascinating to see how a few men around a table reading scripts transforms into a land and time long gone but as if it were here today.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Silenzio! Something I hear over and over and it always make me smile because it\u2019s the chatter and noise that Sicilians make, that brings life to any space. And yet this is not the time or place. The wonderful and very noisy chaos that emanates from the crowd around me as they shout for Jesus to be crucified and not Barabas brings me swiftly back to Sicily and this room. The passion, and the involvement of everyone, no matter how big or small their role, lifts my heart every time.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

So why do I write for them? Quite simply because they asked and because I want to be part of something special, and in this performance and with these people, I have found it. To miss this opportunity would have been to miss a very special moment in time that can bring so much to so many; I wasn\u2019t missing this for anything.<\/div>\n

PERCHE STO SCRIVENDO PER QUESTA PERFORMANCE<\/div>\n
Mentre le prove continuano, sento che questa \u00e8 una buona domanda da porsi: perch\u00e9 sono coinvolta in questa performance?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Ho sempre amato esibirmi quindi capisco perch\u00e9 queste persone sono sul palco, ma non \u00e8 per questo che sono qui. Non voglio essere lass\u00f9 con loro…. Anche se ho imparato il ruolo di Erodiade solo nel caso in cui lei non pu\u00f2 farlo\u2026 Scherzo, ma \u00e8 la mia parte preferita: una donna forte, un p\u00f2 pericolosa, ma bellissima – cosa puoi chiedere di pi\u00f9….<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u00c8 la loro passione. \u00c8 l’importanza che queste persone danno a quello che fanno. \u00c8 la comunit\u00e0. \u00c8 l\u2019inclusione. Sono le risate. Sto imparando molto pi\u00f9 di una commedia su un Ges\u00f9.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Sto imparando la lingua e la cultura. Sto incontrando nuove persone e mi sto facendo nuovi amici. Amo questa citt\u00e0 e la sua gente e posso vedere chiaramente quanto sia bella questa rappresentazione, quanto siano bravi questi attori. Voglio che il mondo li veda. Se posso incoraggiare una persona a venire a vedere questo spettacolo, a vivere la nostra bella citt\u00e0 e incontrare queste belle persone, allora questo \u00e8 quello che devo fare.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Lo stato d’animo sta cambiando sul palco e le posizioni e il posizionamento, nonch\u00e9 l’intonazione e l’espressione sono ora ripetuti molte volte per rendere tutto perfetto.<\/div>\n
Ancora qualcosa va male e qualche battuta viene dimenticata, alcune scene vengono ripetute anche pi\u00f9 e pi\u00f9 volte, ma questo \u00e8 ci\u00f2 che si fa quando si vuole la perfezione – giusto?<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Le chiacchiere non sono pi\u00f9 permesse. \u00c8 fondamentale che ogni persona sia ascoltata e che ogni battuta abbia l’importanza che merita. Rimangono poche settimane di prove ed \u00e8 ora di prendere la cosa sul serio come se non fosse pi\u00f9 recitazione, ma la realt\u00e0.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Sono abituato alla creazione di performance di danza e pantomima, ma non ad una cosa del genere ed \u00e8 affascinante vedere come pochi uomini intorno a un tavolo che leggono un copione possano far rivivere i luoghi e gli eventi di una terra e di un tempo lontani.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Silenzio! Questo \u00e8 quello che sento pi\u00f9 e pi\u00f9 volte e che mi fa sempre sorridere perch\u00e9 \u00e8 per il chiacchiericcio e il rumore che fanno i siciliani, ma \u00e8 questo che porta la vita in qualsiasi contesto. Ma ora non \u00e8 pi\u00f9 n\u00e9 il momento n\u00e9 il luogo. Il caos meraviglioso e molto rumoroso che emana dalla folla intorno a me mentre gridano che deve essere Ges\u00f9 ad essere crocifisso e non Barabba mi riporta rapidamente in Sicilia e in questa stanza. La passione, e il coinvolgimento di tutti, non importa quanto grande o piccolo sia il loro ruolo, mi fa stare bene ogni volta.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Allora perch\u00e9 scrivo per loro? Semplicemente perch\u00e9 me lo hanno chiesto e perch\u00e9 voglio far parte di qualcosa di speciale, e in questa rappresentazione e con queste persone, l’ho trovato. Perdere questa opportunit\u00e0 sarebbe stato perdere un momento molto speciale in questo tempo, che pu\u00f2 portare cos\u00ec tanto a cos\u00ec tanti; non avrei perso questa opportunit\u00e0 per niente al mondo.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
